If you're on this page wondering if this is really me, it is! I finally decided to make a shiny new website after our first 7+ years of keeping my nose to the circuit board and cranking out pedals for you guys.

For those who are new here, 1981 Inventions is a boutique guitar pedal company founded by me (Matthew Hoopes) and co-run with Laura Hoopes. All of our pedals are built in Nashville, Tennessee by myself and my good friend Jack O'Shea. The DRV, our distortion pedal, has been the mainstay of 1981 Inventions, but it's been fun introducing the LVL and also modified versions of the DRV circuit recently.

I've got more than twenty years experience touring and recording, playing guitar with my band Relient K. I've played a lot of different types of gear, in many different scenarios. And I wanted to make pedals that would perform well in a wide variety of situations. I wanted to make something unique. I want to make pedals that not only hold up on the road, but last a lifetime.

I've got so many more exciting ideas that I'm excited to create and share here soon. I absolutely love pedals and guitars and gear, and I wanted to start making pedals with the goal of making the best circuits for myself - that I couldn't find anywhere else. It's so cool to see how other people seem to like them too, and seeing so many of my pedals on pedalboards, on the road and in the studio. It brings me joy to know that people are making sounds and music with these little devices that I'm building.
