FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the things you’ve been wondering (or might someday wonder).

What is 1981 Inventions?

1981 Inventions is a boutique guitar pedal company founded by Matthew Hoopes (Relient K) with the aim of creating thoughtfully designed gear that inspires players. We're known for limited releases, intentional simplicity, and sounds that just feel right.

When will my order arrive?

Once your order ships, you’ll get a confirmation email with tracking info. U.S. orders typically arrive within 3–7 business days. International shipping times vary, but most arrive within 1–3 weeks. For special edition products, we are working with partners who are helping to make your item extra special for you! Once we have it in house and build it, we pack and ship as quickly as we can — thanks for your patience while we get good gear into your hands.

Are your pedals currently in stock?

We release pedals in small batches and they often sell out quickly. If they’re not in stock, don’t worry — more are on the way. Join our mailing list or follow us on Instagram @1981inventions for updates on restocks and announcements.

Where can I buy your pedals?

Our pedals are available directly here at 1981inventions.com when in stock. We occasionally partner with select dealers worldwide, but our direct shop is the best way to get one (and support us directly).

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! We ship to most countries. Shipping rates and times will vary depending on your location. Most countries ship for about $35USD via UPS Expedited. Please note that international customers are responsible for any customs duties or import taxes.

What’s your return policy?

All sales are final.

What if my pedal needs repair?

We handle all repairs in house, so definitely email us and let us know and we will be happy to take care of you!

What power supply do I need?

All our pedals run on standard 9V DC center-negative power (like most guitar pedals). We recommend using a high-quality, isolated power supply for best performance.

Are these pedals made by hand?

Yes. Every pedal is carefully assembled and tested in the USA using high-quality components. We’re obsessed with the details — from the circuit to the finish.

Where did the name come from?

1981 is the birth year of our founder, but also a nod to a golden era of analog gear. It’s a name rooted in both nostalgia and a commitment to doing things right.

I have a different question.

Email us anytime at hi@1981inventions.com. We’re a small team, but we read everything and try to respond as soon as we can (but keep in mind that we are busy building, too).
